The 5 Best Rated Lightweight Garden Hoses

Best Rated Lightweight Garden Hoses

Below we are going to get into the best rated lightweight garden hoses. Many of you are looking for a lightweight garden hose and that does not come as a surprise. Slugging around a heavy-duty hose is quite tiring and requires a lot of physical effort. What is the point of doing all that when a lightweight hose can get the job done just as efficiently.

Heavy-duty hoses might be a little better for washing your car but with a good nozzle sprayer, any type of hose can do a great job. With that being said, a hose is a hose and will do the trick for any watering task. So, there is no need to drag around all that weight and then worry about coiling it up after. It’s time consuming and exhausting.

You might be wondering if lightweight hoses are still strong and kink-free? In fact, there are lightweight hoses that are just as durable as heavy-duty hoses. How? Well, the manufacturing process is quite advanced these days. Some of the lightest hoses act like they are the toughest out there. With their reinforced material and layers of protection, they can withstand a ton of pressure. Not to mention their abrasion-resistance ability and their crush-resistant couplings. Some of them even offer a slim appeal which is perfect for a non-kinking ability.

With that being said, lightweight garden hoses have become quite the popular choice these days because of their kink-free ability, convenience, and price. Yes, lightweight hoses for the most part are cheaper than heavy-duty hoses. Enough sweet talk, let’s get to it!

Flexibility & Convenience

As you can see the Water Right Garden Hose is quite the common selection among hose buyers. Why? Part of the reason for this is because of the extreme flexibility and ease of use this hose offers.

The Water Right Hose is constructed specifically to be as flexible as it can be so that you can get easy use out of it. Don’t worry, this hose is still very durable and tough. Its strong inner core maximizes its durability while you move it around throughout your backyard. Manufacturers have a pretty good idea on what to do these days so they know that you can’t have an extremely flexible hose without any strength.

As you know this water hose is also very light or else it wouldn’t be displayed. Many yard-goers are looking for light garden hoses because they are simple to use and a lot easier on the body. As mentioned above, the great aspect about hoses in the modern day is that a lightweight hose can be as strong and as durable as a heavy-duty hose due to the manufacturing process.

With that being said, there’s no need to pull around all that weight throughout your yard anymore. This lightweight garden hose hardly takes any physical effort to use. In fact, it’s only 7 pounds for a 100 footer. It’s strong, light, and convenient which is everything you need in a garden hose.

Safe Drinking Water

This hose is a NSF & FDA certified safe drinking hose. Many garden hoses deliver water that contains toxic chemicals due to its material. With that being said, majority of hoses are not safe to drink from and that number could be as high as 90%. The Water Right Garden Hose is a rare exception.

Polyurethane material is one of the only hose materials that produces safe drinking water. No lead, BPA, or any other toxic chemicals have been found in this garden hose. It has been tested many times, it’s certified and safe for your children and pets to drink from.

Another great aspect about the polyurethane material is that it is very kink-resistant. It’s a tough material that’s backed up by a strong inner core and has a slim appeal which makes it very hard for this hose to kink. Overall, the Water Right Garden Hose has been noted as a top lightweight choice by many buyers.

  • A Great Versatile Hose

Extreme Strength

The Gilmour Flexogen Super Duty Garden Hose is another hose that could win the publicity award. With over 1,000 customer reviews and a 4-Star Rating you can expect this hose to be a great one. What makes it so special?

Part of the reason for its success is because of the ultimate strength and toughness it offers. It has a massive 8-layered reinforced construction. You may have thought triple-layered was a lot but 8 is almost unheard of. So without a doubt, this garden hose is one of the strongest hoses available. Its reinforced core helps this hose against kinking and tangling, and maximizes its durability.

With a tough hose comes a great abrasion-resistance ability. Many garden hoses like to scrape away and puncture after frequent use but not this one. Its 8-layered reinforced construction pretty much allows you to be care-free with it. Nothing is going to wear down this hose over time.

Gilmour Super Duty Hose

Ease of Use

Yes, we now know this garden hose is strong but what about its convenience? As you can guess, this hose does excel with that element too. What would be the point of manufacturing one of the toughest garden hoses out there if it’s not easy to use.

With that being said, this hose is also very light. It is great for all watering tasks and not much physical effort is required. As phrased in the name itself, this Gilmour Hose also has great flexibility. This makes for easy hose storing and coiling once you are finished with it. Again, we have another garden hose that is strong, flexible, and lightweight but this one comes with a terrific price.

The Water Right Garden Hose above is a little expensive for our liking but polyurethane is definitely not the cheapest material. However, there are a few more differences. The Gilmour Flexogen Hose is indeed stronger but carries more weight. On the other hand, the Water Right Hose is more flexible and much lighter, not to mention its safe drinking water ability.

Overall, this Gilmour Hose is still extremely light compared to most garden hoses and is definitely a top choice among hose buyers.

Anti-Kink Technology

Does this garden hose actually not kink? From the name itself you would definitely think so. Most customers say it doesn’t which it shouldn’t because that would be false advertising. Realistically, all garden hoses will kink from time to time but some garden hoses are much better at not kinking than others. The NeverKink Garden Hose is definitely one of them.

Our two hoses above have the ability to resist kinking due to their durable material, appeal, and strong inner core. This hose has that too but it also one ups the other two because of its advanced anti-kinking technology. First the non-torsion technology helps to resist kinks when the hose is in any position.

Many hoses kink when they tangle but since this hose does not tangle due to its non-torsion technology, it makes it very difficult for this hose to kink. Lastly, the reflex mesh technology the hose features helps to prevent twists, kinking, and tangling as well. Teknor Apex does an excellent job on preventing this hose from kinking.

Crush-Proof Construction

Another great aspect to this hose is that it has lead-free aluminum hose fittings that are crush-resistant and simple to use. The NeverKink Garden Hose is known to have some of the strongest couplings on a water hose. They are fitted with brass interiors, aviation grade aluminum, uniprene washers, and ergonomic grips which make the ends of the hose completely leak-free and airtight.

Not to mention, there is a heavy gauge power coil that prevents any strain or kinking at the faucet. The full length of the hose from end to end is completely crush proof.

In fact, this hose can withstand up to 1,400 pounds of weight. It has been tested multiple times by having a truck drive over it and it was still able to function afterwards. Many hoses puncture, scrape, and constantly wear down over time but not this one. It is extremely tough.

Lastly, this hose is about the same weight as the Gilmour Flexogen above which is considered rather light compared to most hoses. Another aspect to the NeverKink garden hose is that it features ultra-flex technology which helps with convenience.

It’s not heavy to move around so you won’t have a problem with slugging it around your backyard, and this makes it easy to coil up once you’re done using it. However, this hose is flexible but there are other hoses like the two mentioned above that are far more flexible.

One of the reasons for this is because of its non-torsion technology which limits its ability to bend because it resists tangling and twisting. This prevents its flexibility to reach maximum efficiency. Nonetheless this hose is still a top choice as it has over 2,500 reviews and the price is simply unbeatable.

4) Eley Garden Hose

Product Specifications:
  • Manufacturer: ELEY
  • Material: Polyurethane
  • Weight: 8.0 lbs (50ft)
  • Length: (12, 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 175, 200 Feet)
  • Diameter: (5/8″)
  • Color: Gray
  • Fittings: Brass
  • Special Features:
    • All-Weather Protection
    • 150 PSI Working Pressure
    • Crush-Proof Connectors
    • Delivers Safe Drinking Water
    • -40 to 165 Degree F-Resistance
    • Abrasion-Resistant
    • Leak Free & Kink-Free
  • Warranty: 10-Year

  • Has 9 Different Size Selections to Choose From
  • 4.3-Star Rating

The Eley Garden Hose might not be the most popular hose among this list but it receives one of the highest ratings. It is very similar to the Water Right Garden Hose above except for a few differences. This hose too is constructed out of polyurethane material which is great for flexibility, strength, and of course longevity.

Part of the reason buyers love this hose is because they never have to replace it. You will literally get season after season and year after year with this hose. Why?

As mentioned above polyurethane is very abrasion-resistant. It does not puncture or damage easily. It is a very flexible but tough material. You could scrape this hose on some brick corners around your yard and it would still remain good as new. This will help the hose against any leaking or kinking. It also has brass couplings which are crush-proof so you don’t need to worry about your connectors damaging.

As you already know, polyurethane is extremely light and flexible. With that being said, your watering tasks couldn’t be any easier. No need to lift heavy and no need to worry about the hose going stiff on you.

This hose however has a wider appeal than the Water Right Garden Hose which makes it almost as twice as heavy and gives it more power. It weighs 14 pounds for a 100 footer which is quite close to the Gilmour Flexogen and the NeverKink Hose. Although 14 lbs is considered rather light for a garden hose, the Water Right is still much lighter.

Another great aspect to this hose is the length sizes offered. Most companies will cap out at 100-foot garden hoses. However, you can get 4 length sizes above that with the Eley Garden Hose (125, 150, 175, 200). So, if you’re looking for a hose that is well over 100 feet then we strongly recommend this one as that is quite rare.

The Water Right or The Eley?

As you know by now both of these garden hoses are quite similar so which one should you go with if these are your two choices. Both are strong, abrasion-resistant, and deliver safe drinking water.

However, the Water Right Hose is slimmer in appearance thus making its water pressure less powerful, it’s lighter in weight, and is considerably cheaper. The Eley Garden Hose is wider in appearance making it more powerful, heavier in weight, it will probably give you more years out of it, but is more expensive.

Overall, if you don’t mind lifting a little more weight and don’t mind spending more, we would recommend the Eley Garden Hose as it will give you more years of use which makes it the better investment.

  • A Very Tough Hose

Hybrid Construction

This is our fifth and final top lightweight garden hose. It is another Gilmour Garden Hose that definitely does not disappoint. This hose has close to 1,000 positive customer reviews and receives high ratings. Just like the Gilmour Flexogen Hose above, this one too is extremely versatile.

It’s tough, strong, flexible, and light. Its double reinforced material makes quite the difference in durability. Also, the manufacturing process has combined the two materials of rubber and vinyl to form a hybrid construction. These materials together are one of the most durable and strongest materials for a lightweight garden hose.

A rubber garden hose is a little stronger than the mix of the two but is a lot heavier. Some rubber garden hoses can weigh over 30 lbs which is very inconvenient. With that being said, this hose is still light all while maintaining its strength. Another positive aspect to this hybrid construction is that it gives it a great abrasion-resistance ability. Just like the Flexogen above, this hose also does not damage easy over time.

Lifetime Warranty

You don’t see many companies offering lifetime warranty for their garden hoses but the Gilmour brand does. The good news about warranty is that yes, you get a brand new replacement product if something happens to go wrong with any manufacturing issue during use or shipment. But this also tells you that the company does indeed care for you.

Why? Well, many manufacturers do not offer warranty because they don’t want to have to replace your product if something goes wrong because that will cost their company more money. Companies that do offer warranty proves that they value their customers over revenue because they are willing to provide you with a new product, free of charge.

This defines the Gilmour brand perfectly. Their products including their garden hoses receive fabulous reviews and ratings all for a terrific price and they offer a lifetime warranty. That is one of the reasons why we have placed two lightweight Gilmour garden hoses on this list.

The Gilmour Flexogen or The Gilmour Commercial?

If you have come down to the decision between the two then you might be asking the question on which Gilmour hose to pick? Both are strong, light, and offer lifetime warranty. However, there are a few differences.

The Gilmour Flexogen is more flexible, lighter by 4 pounds, and holds the better price. The Gilmour Commercial might be a tad stronger but is a little more expensive. Both have received great reviews and ratings but the Flexogen still gets the edge in that category. With that being said, we would recommend the Gilmour Flexogen Hose over the Gilmour Pro-Commercial. We think it just brings out a more of an advanced appeal, thus making it the better garden hose.

Nonetheless, if you are looking for more of a heavy-duty garden hose that is a bit stronger and heavier, then the Gilmour Commercial is a great pick. Overall, both are terrific water hoses that are very well-liked.

Q: Does the weight of my garden hose affect its water pressure?

Since all these garden hoses are lightweight, you may be wondering how might it impact your water pressure. For the most part, weight does not affect your water pressure. In fact, the interior diameter of your hose is what causes your water pressure to be weak or strong. For example, the Water Right Garden Hose above has a very slim appeal with a thin diameter which gives it a weaker water pressure. If you compare it to the Eley Garden Hose which is wider in diameter, you get a more powerful water pressure.

There are several simple ways to increase the water pressure in your garden hose. The most important and easy one is definitely investing in a nozzle sprayer. A good nozzle sprayer will have multiple functioning options to alter your water pressure. These range from a soft pressure to a very powerful pressure. This will allow you to wash your car and water your flowers with the same garden hose and the goods new is that nozzle sprayers come relatively cheap.

Q: What is the point of having a heavy-duty hose nowadays?

As you know already, a lightweight garden hose can be tough, strong, and powerful, just like a heavy-duty hose. So, what is the point of manufacturing these types of hoses. Well, there really is no point. Many heavy-duty commercial rubber hoses that weigh over 30 lbs are probably 5 plus years old. With that being said, in the modern era, manufacturers will construct lightweight garden hoses to be classified as heavy-duty aside from the actual weight. Even stainless steel garden hoses are lightweight so that definitely says something.

Also, you don’t see many heavy-duty garden hoses that are actually heavy advertised today. And if you do, this is because the company might be trying to up-sell you through false advertising on how strong and powerful their hose is. They make more money this way because typically the more weight a product carries means more revenue for that company.

You also will see a ton of expandable hoses advertised today because they are extremely light and convenient to use. If you don’t have a lightweight hose and you are constantly putting in a ton of physical effort just to wash your car or flowers, or whatever it might be, we strongly recommend that you get one. They are cheaper, require less physical effort, and are way easier to use than heavy-duty hoses.

Q: How often should I be replacing my garden hose?

This answer is simple. If your hose is considered a great garden hose then you should’t have to replace it ever. Unless, it has been like a decade or something then maybe you want to get updated with the latest trend. The funny aspect to this is that we have seen people buy a garden hose and have to replace it just after a few months. How does that happen?

Well, odds are the garden hose was not very strong at all and damaged easily. Also, these people were not very careful at all and didn’t take good care of their hose. Yes, the above garden hoses are all extremely strong, abrasion-resistant, and will last you a long time. However, if you do not take good care of your hose, meaning you don’t store or coil it properly, get kinks out from time to time, and just leave it for the lawn mower to run over then you might be going from 8 years to 3 years or less with it. Just because you have a great garden hose doesn’t mean you don’t have to take care of it.

Final Thoughts

Well, there you have it. You should now be able to make an informed purchase on one of the best rated lightweight garden hoses above. Choosing a garden hose can be quite the frustrating process so we have done part of that process for you. Overall, you want a garden hose that is strong, lightweight, convenient, and one that will last you a long time like the ones above. If you have any questions, please leave us a comment below.

  1. Dear Mark
Thank you very much for your fantastic website. It is amazing that you show people where to start and what steps to make towards their healthy and amazing hobby – gardening. I hope more people will know about your website and follow your guidance.
    Kind regards,

  2. Wow! I had no idea there were so many different types of hoses! Here I am at 47, and the only hoses I’ve ever seen were the cheap green ones that everybody seems to have. And yes, they do not last long unless they’re tended like babies. I’ll be getting my own place soon, and it seems like it will be a great idea to look at quality hoses. Thank you for this information!

  3. Hi Mark,
Thanks for the review, I get so tired of lugging our older/heavier hose around to different parts of the yard. I went to a hardware store and was a little overwhelmed with the choices!
Quick question, I’m assuming if it doesn’t say “safe drinking water” then it isn’t? Besides lighter, safe drinking water is a priority for me.
    Thanks so much!

    1. Hi Lisa, that is a great question. First of all, yes there are so many choices to choose from nowadays so it makes it quite difficult to pick the right hose. It really comes down to what you prefer and what might best suit your needs. Although, lightweight hoses are highly recommend as they are more convenient and easier to use.

As far as the safe drinking water aspect goes, you are correct on your assumption. If manufacturers don’t include that their hose is safe to drink from then it will most likely deliver unsafe water. Having safe drinking water is very important, especially if you are a frequent gardener. I hope you can now get rid of your old heavy-duty hose and replace it with a lighter and safer one.
